Create, edit, sign, and countersign notes to keep detailed and reviewed records of your lab work
Registering Notes
To create a new note, click the + button in the left hand navigation menu. A modal will appear which allows you to indicate whether the note should be created from scratch or using a template, specify the notebook to create the note in, and a title for the note. Click Create Note to continue.
Notes are comprised of one or more sections, so when a new note is created, the system immediately prompts the user to create the first section of the note. Sections can be either from scratch, in which case the user will be required to specify whether the section is free form or spreadsheet, or a template section, in which case the template must be specified. Finally, a section title should be provided. Click Add Section to continue.
Note Management
Any number of sections can be added to a note by clicking the Add Section button in the upper left. Clicking Manage Sections will allow for reordering or removal of a section. Within the section, the gear icon can be used to remove a section or make it a section template, for easy reuse at a future date. Each section in the note will be listed as links on the left for quick navigation.
Any number of files or tags can be associated to a note by clicking the Files and Tags buttons in the navigation menu. Clicking Save as PDF will save a PDF copy of the note to your local machine.
Clicking the gear button in the top menu bar will provide users the ability to copy a note to a different notebook, move a note to a different notebook, or make the note configuration a template for future use. Additionally, the note can be deleted using the Delete Note button.
Signing and Countersigning
If a note has not yet been signed, then the gear menu will contain a Sign option. The user will be required to specify a password and a countersigner (another user of the ELN). The countersigner will receive a notification that action is required, and then will enter the specified password to countersign the note. Once countersigned, the note is locked and can no longer be edited.
